Before he became one of the best strikers in the world, Jonathan Haggerty was simply an underrated gem who wanted to make a splash in his ONE debut.

'The General' certainly did that against the gutsy Joseph Lasiri at ONE: Eternal Glory back in 2019.

Haggerty beat up 'The Hurricane' for three rounds and cruised to a dominant unanimous decision win.

While he was clearly up in the scorecards, especially after dropping Lasiri with a violent tomahawk elbow in the first round, the British striker knew he couldn't afford to let his foot off the gas.

After all, Haggerty was wise enough not to underestimate a world-class opponent which has been the downfall of many fighters before him.

The bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing world champion recalled his ONE debut in a recent clip uploaded on his personal YouTube page:

"I knew I was winning at this point, but you just can't underestimate your opponent. You've got four-ounce gloves on. One shot, and it could be game over. So I like to stay switched on. But at this point, I knew I was winning and I could see he was rushing and he was eager to get close to me."

Jonathan Haggerty carries the same mentality ahead of megafight with Superlek

A big reason why Jonathan Haggerty rose to superstardom is his unbridled ability to stay laser-focused until the job is finished.

'The General' also owes up to his mistakes and even acknowledges that he was out of his league when he took on Superlek Kiatmoo9 earlier in his career.

"It was a little too soon in my career. But, you know, I usually take fights offered to me, take risks once in a while," Haggerty said during an appearance at ONE Friday Fights 72 last weekend.

Jonathan Haggerty will get a chance to right that wrong on the grand stage on September 6, when he defends his bantamweight crown against 'The Kicking Machine' at ONE 168: Denver inside Ball Arena.
