ONE world champion Jonathan Di Bella calls out Takeru to fight in ONE Championship

ONE strawweight kickboxing world champion Jonathan Di Bella and ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong might be cooking up something big in the near future.

In a recent tweet reposted by Di Bella, the Canadian kickboxing marvel lightly called out Japanese K-1 superstar Takeru Segawa.

Takeru, who earned the distinction of being called just by his first name, is the only three-division world champion in K-1's long history. Combat Press ranks him as the No.1 pound-for-pound bantamweight kickboxer in the world as of September 2020.

At the moment, Takeru is not signed to ONE Championship. Sityodtong, however, was quoted by Beyond Kickboxing as he gave the Japanese sensation a shot at ONE.

Jonathan Di Bella retweeted the quote, making it known that he has intentions of testing his might against Takeru.

Here's Sityodtong's quote:

"If Takeru wants to go to the global stage and not just stay on the Japanese level, then I'm open."

From the way Sityodtong phrased it, there was a sense of challenge in his words. The ONE CEO, together with the ONE strawweight kickboxing king, are throwing down the gauntlet.

A bout between Jonathan Di Bella and Takeru Segawa is definitely a kickboxing dream match for any fight fan.

Canadian MMA legend Georges St-Pierre congratulates countryman Jonathan Di Bella on winning ONE world title

After winning the ONE strawweight kickboxing world title at ONE 162, Jonathan Di Bella received praise from fellow Canadian and MMA legend Georges St-Pierre.

The mere mention of St-Pierre's name to any Canadian will make the hair on the back of their necks stand up. Being mentioned and congratulated by the combat sports legend is almost as prestigious as winning a world title.

Di Bella etched his place in martial arts history by capturing the vacant ONE strawweight kickboxing world title at ONE 162. His bout against China's Zhang Peimian was one of the highlights of the night.

GSP took congratulated Di Bella on his Instagram Stories.

“New Champion 👏 Congrats @jondibella.”

If and when Di Bella does lock horns with Takeru, a win would take a huge step towards legendary status in his country, akin to his senior GSP's status.

We'll just have to wait and see what Takeru does now that the ball's in his court.
