Jon Jones was the key subject of a recent sitdown involving renowned MMA journalist Ariel Helwani and retired fighter Matt Hamill, the latter of whom is eyeing a possible rematch with Jones. Helwani took to X/Twitter with a clip of the pair's discussion regarding the bout.
Not only does Hamill challenge Jones to a rematch during the interview, he also promises to emerge victorious. Only this time, he aims to do so without the help of a rule-set or technicality. While he acknowledges that he was losing the initial fight to Jones, he believes a rematch would have a different complexion.
"It wasn't my night, but if the one-loss record bothers Jon Jones, I told him, let's have a rematch. I mean, I'll tell you something. It's not going to be like Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. I expect there to be blood, I expect there to be broken bones. So, let's have one last shot."

Unfortunately for Hamill, the likelihood that he is given the sought-after rematch is low. Jones is currently expected to defend his UFC heavyweight championship against Tom Aspinall, the division's interim titleholder, and is locked in a negotiations battle with the promotion for a reported $30 million purse.
Meanwhile, Hamill hasn't fought in the UFC since 2012 and retired from MMA in 2018 with a subpar 13-8 record. However, he remains infamous for his bout with Jones, which saw him defeat the future all-time great via disqualification after 'Bones' resorted to the then-illegal 12-6 elbows in full mount.
It remains the only loss on Jones' record.
Matt Hamill has taken aim at Jon Jones before
This isn't the first instance of Matt Hamill setting his sights on Jon Jones. Last year, on Aug. 31, Hamill popped up in the Facebook comment section of a post made by MMA Knockout. The page shared a screenshot of one of Jones' many dismissals of Tom Aspinall as a challenger.
Naturally, this drew the attention of displeased fans, who flocked to the comment section to share their thoughts. It was under one such comment that Hamill offered his two cents. The fan in question refused to acknowledge Jones as the MMA GOAT, which prompted Hamill to say the following:
"No worries, he lost to me. He refused to have a rematch. I guess he was out of PEDs. That's a bummer."
Try as he might, though, even Hamill's trash talk has failed to draw up the kind of interest needed for rematch talks to take place with any seriousness.
