Hughes said that though he needed to watch the fight for a proper assessment, he believed himself to be the rightful winner in that encounter. The Irishman also criticized the judges' scorecards and claimed that the accidental headbutt in the fourth round affected his momentum in the fight.

'Big News' also predicted that he and the Dagestani would share the cage one more time in the future. He said:

"Obviously, as always, I'm gonna have to watch it back to get a good assessment... but as we know, we all thought I won that one. I think the judges' scorecards were pretty ridiculous. But, I mean, as I say, I'll watch it back with a clear mind. I'm just judging from the energy of the arena, everyone surrounding the cage, I thought it was mine. I'm not gonna make excuses though. I should have pushed harder... and I will the next time. I know we will fight again... I'm proud of myself but I need to get that back. I deserve to have that belt soon."
