Vadim Nemkov showcased his dominance in the heavyweight division with a stunning first-round submission victory over Timothy Johnson at Saturday's PFL event. The Russian powerhouse, who recently transitioned from light heavyweight, solidified his status as a top contender in his new weight class.
Nemkov entered the fight with momentum from his second-round submission win over Bruno Cappelozza in 2024, and he wasted no time imposing his will on Johnson.
The 39-year-old Johnson, a seasoned veteran with experience in the UFC, PFL, and Bellator, sought to rebound from a first-round loss to Denis Goltsov last August but struggled to keep pace with Nemkov’s speed and precision.
The bout opened with Nemkov methodically closing the distance, using feints to keep Johnson off balance. A thunderous head kick landed cleanly, leaving Johnson bleeding from his forehead. Despite Johnson's attempts to pressure forward, Nemkov’s agility and striking accuracy proved overwhelming.

After softening Johnson up with strikes, Nemkov executed a series of takedowns, eventually securing dominant back control. Johnson attempted to scramble to his feet but left his neck exposed. Nemkov capitalized, locking in a rear-naked choke that forced Johnson to tap at 3:08 in the first round.
