A look into Alexa Grasso's career trajectory in the UFC
Alexa Grasso has had an eventful career in the UFC since signing with the promotion in 2016. Her debut came against Heather Jo Clark, where she won by unanimous decision.
However, she faced her first setback in 2017 against Felice Herrig, losing by unanimous decision. Grasso’s journey saw further challenges including a medical issue prior to her win over Randa Markos, and a tough defeat to Tatiana Suarez in 2018.
After switching to the flyweight division in 2020, Grasso began to shine, winning several notable bouts including victories over Ji Yeon Kim and Maycee Barber. She continued her momentum with a dominant win over Joanne Wood in 2022 and a unanimous decision over Viviane Araújo.
In March 2023, Grasso made history by defeating Valentina Shevchenko for the UFC women's flyweight championship, becoming the first Mexican UFC women's champion.
Grasso’s first title defense ended in a draw with Shevchenko in September 2023. But she lost the title back to Shevchenko after a hard-fought battle at UFC 306 in September 2024.
