A look into Alexa Grasso’s UFC career
Alexa Grasso has made a remarkable journey in the UFC, evolving from a promising prospect to a history-making champion. After signing with the UFC in 2016, Grasso made an impressive debut by defeating Heather Jo Clark via unanimous decision at The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3 Finale.
Despite early setbacks, including losses to Felice Herrig and Tatiana Suarez, she demonstrated resilience and continued to refine her skills.
Her move to the flyweight division in 2020 marked a turning point. Grasso claimed significant victories against Maycee Barber, Joanne Wood, and Viviane Araújo, showcasing her improved grappling and striking abilities.
This momentum culminated in her stunning victory over Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285 in March 2023, where she secured a face-crank submission to become the first Mexican UFC women’s champion.
Grasso defended her title in a rematch against Shevchenko in Sept. 2023, with the bout ending in a split draw. The rivalry continued, leading to a third encounter at UFC 306 in Sept. 2024.
Although she lost the championship via unanimous decision, her performance solidified her reputation as one of the division's top competitors.
