Stipe Miocic sent a heartfelt retirement message after UFC 309 loss against Jon Jones
After a nearly three-year layoff, Stipe Miocic returned to competition to challenge Jon Jones for the UFC heavyweight title in November's UFC 309 main event. Many questioned Miocic's ability to compete at the highest level, factoring in his age and extended break from competition. Unfortunately for him, the former champion lost by third-round TKO.
After the defeat, the 42-year-old announced his retirement from professional MMA and penned a heartwarming message in an Instagram post. Part of the caption addressing his coach and opponents read:
"We had a hell of a run coach. You dedicated years of your life to me. We made history based on a dream, and you had a vision. Now we have more time to drink wine and play euchre while making fun of Bobby because he is terrible at defending him self. To my opponents, thank you all. I learned something from every single one of you. It was an honor to go to war, brothers."
