'Da Crazy Hawaiian' won the coin toss, granting him the opportunity to strike first. As the defending champion prepared for his initial wind-up, he mistakenly delivered a clubbing slap, which did not hit the permitted target area, resulting in a deduction of one point. Despite this, the challenger remained unaffected by the slap's impact.

When it was Van Heerden's turn, he unleashed a powerful third wind-up and capitalized on an extra opportunity to strike his opponent in the first round following the foul. His well-placed strike found its mark, but Viernes absorbed it nonchalantly, showing no signs of being phased.

The second round began explosively as 'Da Crazy Hawaiian' unleashed a devastating slap that sent his opponent crashing to the canvas. Van Heerden barely managed to beat the 10 count and appeared to be on unsteady legs thereafter.

When 'The Pitbull' took his turn, his slap lacked its usual force, likely due to the earlier knockdown, and his opponent appeared completely unaffected by the blow.

In the third round, Viernes delivered another decisive strike that sent his opponent sprawling to the mat. Once more, Van Heerden managed to beat the 10-count. When it was Van Heerden's turn, his slap lacked the same impact as before, but the champion stood resolute.

In the fourth round, the scene mirrored the previous two rounds as 'The Pitbull' narrowly avoided another knockdown, saved only by the table.

As they entered the final round, Viernes seemed to have lost some of his earlier impact, while Van Heerden, despite enduring significant damage, also struggled to deliver a powerful strike.

The judges' scorecards unanimously favored Viernes, with scores of 48-44, 47-45, and 47-45. Despite a point deduction, the Hawaiian slugger successfully defended his super heavyweight title.
