Fans reacted to Chael Sonnen claiming Alex Pereira's next opponent might not be Magomed Ankalaev.

Earlier this month, Pereira revealed he had a successful meeting in Las Vegas, potentially with Dana White and the UFC brass. The light heavyweight world champion teased a potential announcement in the near future, leaving fans wondering if he'd officially signed on to defend his title against Ankalaev.

Meanwhile, Sonnen recently released a YouTube video with a different theory. The former UFC fighter had this to say about the situation:

"[Magomed] Ankalaev deserves a world title shot. I believe he's getting it. I do not believe that Ankalaev will compete again and it not to be for a world title. What I'm not as confident in telling you is that he will be fighting Alex Pereira for the world title."

Sonnen continued:

"I know [Pereira] did not get brought into the office to fight Ankalaev. That isn't dismissive to Ankalaev. It would seem as though he's going to fight Ankalaev. The rankings would support it, the media would support it. Ankalaev and Pereira have agreed publicly to do it. There would not be a meeting about it is what I'm sharing for you."

Fans took to the YouTube comment section and reacted to Sonnen's theory:

"Alex should get whatever fight he wants; which is Ankalaev & Jon Jones/Aspinall after that"
"I think Poatan will be fighting chimaev in his next title defense . Book it"
"AP to be back up for Bones v Tom"
"Quack vs Quack Quack at heavyweight. Tom vs Tom for interm strap lik"

Potential opponents for Alex Pereira

Magomed Ankalaev had a strong argument for deserving the last UFC light heavyweight title shot before Khalil Rountree Jr. Since then, Ankalaev has secured a unanimous decision win against Aleksandar Rakic.

Ankalaev is the most likely next opponent for Alex Pereira. Another option would be a super-fight against heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who called out the light heavyweight champion before and after defeating Stipe Miocic.

Dana White claimed Jones will be fighting Tom Aspinall in an undisputed heavyweight world title fight next. Therefore, Pereira could face someone outside of the division like Khamzat Chimaev, even though it's unlikely.
