He may have predicted a knockout with the left hand, but Reece McLaren will take his stoppage win over Windson Ramos by way of vicious rights any day of the week.
McLaren earned a second-round technical knockout after Ramos retired on his stool in their flyweight match at ONE 162 on Friday at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Ramos was on the receiving end of hellacious punishment. Although the Brazilian was still willing to return to the fight, a swollen right foot prevented him from standing up. With him unable to continue, McLaren took the TKO win, marking his second straight victory.

Reece McLaren revealed during his post-fight interview with Mitch Chilson that he only had half a camp to prepare for his opponent. Nevertheless, that short preparation pushed him to his ninth win and seventh finish in ONE Championship.
‘Lightning’ said:
“It was half a camp this time. I was lucky enough to train for half a camp. So this is me on half a camp and a bit of a head cold.”
While he’s a natural grappler and a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, McLaren was content on exchanging strikes during the fight.
McLaren, who’s now under the tutelage of Australian striking icon John Wayne Parr, tagged Ramos with heavy right hands throughout the contest. The No.5-ranked flyweight contender landed the cross from the orthodox stance at will, giving him a distinct advantage in the opening period.
Things looked almost the same in the second round, but McLaren started to mix his strikes and landed some thigh kicks that continually cut Ramos down.
Although Reece McLaren’s right hand broke through Ramos’ guard often, he said that his timing was off and he needed a bit more of it to get his rhythm right:
“Timing is off, the timing was off. I know it’s getting better, that’s off. That’s me finding range. I take my hat off to Windson, the dude’s game. Thank you so much for the amazing fight, the amazing experience tonight.”
Reece McLaren calls out Danny Kingad
Reece McLaren remains one of the most dangerous fighters in ONE Championship and while he can shoot his shot for the world title, 'Lightning' wants to take the long road and build his name up through the flyweight ranks.
The 31-year-old from Gold Coast, Australia wants to run things back and renew his rivalry with No.4-ranked flyweight contender Danny Kingad:
"I’ve got to move up surely. I’ve been fighting, for now, how long since the rankings have come up, I’ve stayed at number five. I’d love to run it back with all these guys above me. But now like I said the last time I’m looking up at the mountains. Danny, come on brother.”
Reece McLaren and Danny Kingad fought each other in the semifinals of the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix at ONE: Dawn of Heroes in August 2019. The close contest went Kingad’s way with the Filipino star taking the split-decision win.
McLaren added:
“ONE Championship, man, you guys are leading the way, son. The best flyweights in the world are right here. This is where I wanna stay, this is where I wanna be champ so give me a number, give me someone who’s higher than me."
