Surinamese-Dutch striker Regian Eersel remained the ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion following his impressive fourth-round knockout victory over familiar foe Sinsamut Klinmee at the weekend.
'The Immortal' made it a successful first world title defense of the lightweight Muay Thai gold in his rematch with Thai Sinsamut at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video on March 24 at the famed Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.
The two first met for the title in October 2022, with the fight going the full distance of five rounds and Regian Eersel winning by split decision.
In the post-fight interview following his latest triumph, the reigning world champion shared that hometown bet Sinsamut came in with a different game plan and had early success with it. But he stuck to his own strategy and waited for the right opportunity to make his move, which he said made all the difference.

Eersel told ONE Championship commentator Mitch Chilson:
“I was surprised. I thought that he would clinch more, but he went to kicking more – he kicks very hard. But I could take them, as you saw. I just didn’t lose my focus, and just stuck to the game plan – make him tired because he was assaulting, assaulting, assaulting. In the last fight, he didn’t assault that much, so I knew his tank would soon be very empty. So in the fourth round, I decided to go to the deck, and he goes down.”
The impressive win earned Regian Eersel a $50,000 performance bonus while allowing him to keep his standing as a ONE two-sport world champion. Apart from being the ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion, he is also the division’s kickboxing king.
Regian Eersel earns $50,000 performance bonus in latest win
It was a double celebration for Surinamese-Dutch fighter Regian Eersel in his latest fight as apart from retaining the title of ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion, he was also rewarded with a $50,000 performance bonus.
'The Immortal' defeated Sinsamut Klinmee of Thailand in their rematch for the world title at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video at the famous Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok. The win came by way of an impressive knockout in the fourth round.
Regian Eersel took his time in the fight before putting on the move to retain the lightweight Muay Thai gold in enemy territory.
The two top fighters went back and forth in the early goings of their scheduled five-round title showdown. Regian Eersel, however, would show his superiority as the fight progressed, capping it off with a solid shot to the liver of Sinsamut from which the latter could not recover from.
With the way he fashioned out the victory, ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong saw it fit to reward the ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion with a $50,000 performance bonus, which Eersel was grateful for:
“Thank you Chatri Sityodtong, thank you ONE Championship once again for the opportunity to fight. This is my favorite organization you know,” the world champion said in the post-fight interview.
The win was the second straight for ONE two-sport world champion Eersel over Sinsamut, who he defeated by split decision in their first world title showdown last October. It also extended his winning run in the promotion to nine straight.
