Regian Eersel reveals he was once on track to become an elite Rugby player for the Netherlands: “My position was a winger”

Reigning ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion and former lightweight kickboxing king 'The Immortal' Regian Eersel of Suriname and The Netherlands is one of the most accomplished strikers in the world today.

The former two-sport lightweight titleholder competes among the very best in ONE Championship today, where he stands head and shoulders above the competition in the world's largest martial arts organization.

But there was a point in his life when he appeared destined for greatness in a completely different sport.

Speaking to MMA UK in a recent interview, Eersel revealed he was an outstanding rugby player growing up.

'The Immortal' said:

"Yes, I played rugby as a child. When I was 13 until 15 years old. I was even selected by the Dutch national team. For the ones who know rugby, my position was a winger."

Of course, life brought him to the path of becoming a martial artist instead. Today, he's one of the best fighters in the world competing in a stacked lightweight division in ONE Championship.
