Despite losing his ONE lightweight kickboxing world title to Alexis Nicolas, Regian Eersel believes he still is — in his own words – the divisional king.
The Surinamese striker runs it back with the Frenchman in a bid to reclaim his gold in the headline attraction of ONE Fight Night 25. The promotion's 11-fight card inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, goes down this Friday, October 4.
Ahead of fight night, the ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion sat down with ONE Championship to share his thoughts on his lone promotional loss to the Mahmoudi Gym fighter this past April. He said:
"I still believe I'm the best in the world in this division. To lose my streak was difficult, but it gives me the extra spark to show the world — and to show myself and Alexis that I'm the better fighter and that I'm the king of the division."

With the bitter taste of defeat lingering in his mouth and a promise to deliver the goods inside the Mecca of Muay Thai, Regian Eersel should have it in him to bounce back into the winner's column and secure two-sport glory at ONE Fight Night 25.
Like Regian Eersel, Alexis Nicolas is not short of confidence heading into sequel
In the opposite corner, defending king Alexis Nicolas shares an equal amount of confidence heading into the pair's second encounter.
Already equipped with a blueprint to beat Regian Eersel, the Parisian is certain he'll reel in a similar result when they lock horns. Moreover, with naysayers still doubting his win over the Sityodtong Amsterdam athlete, Nicolas is determined to silence that particular lot for good.
The undefeated kickboxer (24-0) told the promotion:
"I was better that day, and I will be better the next time we meet. So I think it was the right decision. I would have scored it the same way. I'm better now. I hope he gets better as well."
