'The Dutch Knight' Reinier de Ridder suffered his first career loss at the hands of Russian knockout machine 'Sladkiy' Anatoly Malykhin via first-round knockout. In the process, he also lost his coveted status as a two-division world champion, having lost his ONE light heavyweight world title.
Reigning ONE middleweight champion Reinier de Ridder reflected on his knockout loss in an interview with ONE Championship. The Dutch athlete explained:
"Sh*t happens, man. I’ve never lost a fight before. I’ve never really been hurt in training. It was tough, but I was always prepared for this. I know that if you stick around long enough, if you look for the largest challenges, which I do, sh*t happens."
Anatoly Malykhin is now a two-division world champion and currently holds both the ONE light heavyweight world title and the ONE interim heavyweight world championship.
