Renato Moicano recently issued a chilling reaction to accepting a short-notice title showdown against Islam Makhachev. Moicano had initially been lined up to face Beneil Dariush in a lightweight bout on the main card of UFC 311, set to take place this weekend at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

However, on Friday, 'Money' jumped at the biggest opportunity of his career so far after the event’s headliner underwent a dramatic shake-up. UFC CEO Dana White announced that the originally scheduled main event between reigning lightweight champion Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan had been scrapped, as 'Ahalkalakets' was forced to pull out of their rematch due to a back injury.

Consequently, Moicano will now challenge the Dagestani in the newly reshaped main event of UFC 311.

When inquired about capitalizing on this unexpected chance during the ceremonial weigh-in, Moicano appeared energized about the upcoming matchup following an intense staredown with Makhachev:

"I don’t give a f**k. I cannot afford to f**king lose, and that's the truth. It doesn’t matter if it’s the champion or not tomorrow I’m winning."

'Money' is heading into the title fight following a lopsided second-round TKO (doctor’s stoppage) win over Benoit Saint Denis at UFC Paris in September 2024. He’s currently on a four-fight win streak and has been on a tear, securing six victories in his last seven bouts.

Demetrious Johnson believes Renato Moicano poses greater challenge for Islam Makhachev

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Demetrious Johnson shared his thoughts on the altered UFC 311 main event between Islam Makhachev and Renato Moicano following Arman Tsarukyan's withdrawal.

'Mighty' expressed that the short-notice nature of the fight has made it an intriguing matchup and asserted that it will pose a tough challenge for Makhachev:

"I think it's a better fight, and here's the reason why: you look at what 'Money' Moicano has done recently. He is on a tear because the man can't afford to lose, and I think it's a tougher fight for Islam Makhachev. The reason is that you have to do it within 24 hours; you have no idea what the game plan’s going to be, and the whole thing changes.

He added:

"But right now, Islam Makhachev is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, so he can fight anybody on any given day. But you do have to make some adjustments, because the way that 'Money' fights compared to what Arman does is night and day different. I feel Renato Moicano is way more dangerous than Arman just because he's not going to rely on the wrestling."
