The GFL is anticipated to make its debut in April, though the exact date remains unconfirmed. In contrast to conventional models, it introduces a league-based system with playoffs and a team-oriented format.

The company’s co-founder, Darren Owen, has revealed a range of distinctive benefits for fighters, including training support, insurance coverage, a 50-50 revenue split, pension plans, and additional perks.

Cain Velasquez opens up about taking on role of team manager at GFL

Last week, Cain Velasquez joined the GFL as team manager, with his longtime friend and American Kickboxing Academy coach Javier Mendez also on board as head coach for his team.

During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, the former UFC heavyweight champion opened up about his decision to take on the managerial role and the potential opportunities it could bring:

"I’ve got the honor of being the team manager for Team Dubai. The great thing about that is, number one, I get to work closely with my coach and my mentor. My brother, Javier Mendez. He’s coaching the Dubai team, so you know, [we did] the things as far as pre-picking the team."

He added:

"The GFL is coming on to do the team aspect of MMA, something that has never been done before, and the way they’re doing it, I’m very excited to be a part of that. I’m very excited to be with GFL and help it grow. Help this sport, and just create something great for fans. That’s what it’s about."
