Based on recent reports from MMASucka, UFC welterweight veteran Stephen Thompson is set to face off against Michel Pereira at the highly anticipated UFC 289 event.
'Wonderboy', known for his impressive striking abilities and smooth footwork, will be looking to make a statement against his opponent, who is also renowned for his explosive style and showmanship in the octagon.
Having fought for the welterweight title twice, Stephen Thompson is returning to the octagon following a highly acclaimed Fight of the Year performance against Kevin Holland at UFC on ESPN 42 in December. The win marked a significant milestone for the veteran fighter, who has not achieved a finish since his career-defining victory against former champion Johny Hendricks at UFC Fight Night 82.

Stephen Thompson's return to the octagon has been confirmed by the man himself. The two-time welterweight title challenger recently teased his return.
Michel Pereira, a 29-year-old Capoeira specialist from Brazil, has been on a winning streak lately with five consecutive victories under his belt. Although known for his flashy style in the past, 'Demolidor' has recently adopted a more focused and subdued approach to fighting, which seems to be working well for him.
His current streak began with a submission win over Zelim Imadaev, and culminated in a triumph over Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Vegas 55. By the time he steps into the octagon at UFC 289, it will be over a year since his last win.
Stephen Thompson anticipates Shavkat Rakhmonov will defeat Khamzat Chimaev in a potential bout
During a recent interview with Submission Radio, welterweight veteran Stephen Thompson shared his prediction for a potential bout between Shavkat Rakhmonov and Khamzat Chimaev. Thompson stated that he believes Rakhmonov, who is currently undefeated, will come out on top against Chimaev due to his superior striking abilities.
Thompson expressed his confidence in 'Nomad's' striking prowess and suggested that he could outstrike Chimaev in the bout:
"You know what I would have liked to see? If he wouldn’t have gone up to 185 [middleweight], was Shavkat vs. Khamzat. Ooh, that would have been a headliner right there! Like that would have been a great, great fight. And I think Shavkat would have the edge on him, his takedowns and his striking. I think his striking’s a lot better than Khamzat’s.”
