Five months after winning the vacant WBO female lightweight championship, Rhiannon Dixon made her first title defense on Sept. 28 against Terri Harper. The women's lightweight clash headlined an event at Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield, England.
Both Dixon and Harper came into the bout with a lot to prove as the champion looked to improve her unbeaten record to 11-0 and successfully retain her championship for the first time. Meanwhile, the 27-year-old was looking to bounce back from her loss to Sandy Ryan earlier this year and become a three-division female boxing champion.
It was an impressive start by Harper as she got the better of the exchanges and dictated the pace. Despite the early success, it began to look like a tale of two halves as Dixon regrouped and responded well in the third round. Harper didn't panic, however, and appeared to have edged out the champion in the fourth round.
Dixon continued to build momentum and appeared to have benefited from the heightened sense of urgency, as she looked sharper as the fight progressed and landed significant strikes of her own in both the fifth and sixth rounds. The end of the sixth round was a confidence booster for the champion, especially considering it ended while she had the challenger against the ropes.

The challenger weathered the storm and regained control of the fight in the final rounds. The entertaining Matchroom Boxing main event went the distance and saw Harper earn the decision to achieve an incredible feat by winning a championship in a third-weight division.
