A rising UFC welterweight recently shared a cryptic post, which sparked a whirlwind of speculation about Leon Edwards' potential next opponent.

Earlier this month, 'Rocky' hinted at headlining a UFC Fight Night in London on March 22. However, uncertainty lingered about who might stand across from him—until recently, when Carlos Prates posted an enigmatic message on his Instagram story.

'The Nightmare' shared a fan-created image showing him facing Edwards, paired with the caption, "How’s this welterweight clash go?" The Brazilian added to the intrigue with a 'Soon Arrow' emoji.

Fans erupted with excitement over Prates' post, buzzing with anticipation at the prospect of him facing 'Rocky' next, with many speculating on how this thrilling match might unfold.

One fan wrote:

"Would be interesting stylistically. I see countershots landing for Leon early. If Carlos can defensively pressure correctly, he can get Leon's gas tank down first and then start throwing bombs. So Leon early or Carlos late if it's by finish. Give me Prates round 3 TKO."

Another wrote:

"I love Leon but RIP."

Another commented:

"Why is he lying this fight isn't happening."

Edwards was last seen in action at UFC 304 in July, where he lost his welterweight title to Belal Muhammad via a dominant unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Prates is on a four-fight knockout streak in the UFC, all in 2024, with his latest victory coming last month against veteran Neil Magny.

How many losses has Leon Edwards suffered in his UFC career?

Leon Edwards boasts a professional record of 22-4, including a UFC record of 14-3 with one no-contest. 'Rocky' suffered his inaugural UFC setback in his promotional debut against Claudio Silva, losing by a split decision in November 2014.

After that loss, Edwards bounced back with a couple of victories, regaining his momentum before meeting Kamaru Usman for the first time in December 2015. 'The Nigerian Nightmare' emerged victorious, claiming a dominant unanimous decision over Edwards.

However, 'Rocky' remained undefeated following that loss, eventually avenging his defeat to Usman at UFC 278 in August 2022 with a stunning fifth-round knockout to claim the welterweight title. He then triumphed over the former long-reigning champion once again at UFC 286 in March 2023. Most recently, Edwards suffered a defeat to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304.
