Rising UFC prospect, Irishman Ian Machado Garry spoke to Petesy Carrol on Ariel Helwani's official YouTube channel. He spoke on the state of the welterweight division, his position, and also gave his thoughts on champion Leon Edwards and rising contender Shavkat Rakhmonov.
Garry has been known to train with both Edwards and Rakhmonov. He stated that he is currently in Birmingham and training at Edwards' gym, whilst also acknowledging that he trains with Rakhmonov in Florida.
Then, Carrol, the interviewer, asked Ian Garry, how he squared up against that caliber of fighter, to which Garry replied:
"If you ask Leon, you go find Leon and ask him if you fight Ian on the feet, could Ian win? He'd say yes he could. He might sit there and say yeah, he could, he might argue his case and say he's a bit cleaner on the feet. But that's not the question, the question is could Ian win? I guarantee you he'd say yes.

"You ask Shavkat the same thing? I guarantee you he'd say yes. This is the thing. The world doesn't know what my grappling is like. Everybody assumes I'm a striker, you take me down, you can suffocate me. Do it then. F**king do it then. Let's see." (6:40 to 7:34)
Ian Garry to face Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Fight Night 224 on May 13
Ian Garry is coming off a KO win over Kenan Song and is slated to fight Daniel Rodriguez next. Rodriguez is coming off a submission loss to Neil Magny. With both Garry and Rodriguez being strikers, this fight promises fireworks.
In the same interview, Garry was asked about how the fight would go. To this, he responded:
"Do you know what would be the biggest success in this fight? If i hit him so many times in the fight that Danny shoots. I don't think he's had a single shot in the UFC. If I make him shoot, I'd have broken him." (7:45 to 8:11)
Ian Garry will be up against Rodriguez, who holds a 17-3 record in MMA. With a win, Garry is sure to rise in the ranks at welterweight.
