Robert Whittaker is just a few days out from his latest UFC win and is reportedly targeting a spot on UFC 305.

Courtesy of FOX Sports Australia, the former UFC middleweight champion's representation is already planning the next fight for his client after emerging victorious over the weekend. Whittaker halted Ikram Aliskerov with strikes less than two minutes into the first round of their UFC Saudi Arabia main event on June 22.

On X via an account called @ChampRDS, the following message was relayed,

"Robert Whittaker's agent confirms that discussions have begun regarding Whittaker fighting at #UFC305 in Perth. Talks are around Rob either fighting on the card or being the backup fighter for the main event between Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis.

"His agent adds, however, that before any decision is made they must first consult with doctors to see what surgery is still required on Rob's teeth. (via. @FOXSportsAUS) #UFC #MMA."

UFC 305 transpires at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, and Whittaker is certainly familiar with both headliners. As mentioned, Dricus Du Plessis will defend his middleweight title against a former multi-time champion at 185 pounds in Israel Adesanya later this summer.

Robert Whittaker and his past fights versus the UFC 305 headliners

Even if he doesn't get set up as the backup fighter for this main event, Robert Whittaker can potentially vault himself back into the conversation to fight the winner of the main event next. Of course, this depends on what caliber of opponent he may or may not secure for the August 17 card.

To that point, it makes sense to look back on how those prior contests versus Du Plessis and Adesanya went.

The 33-year-old first clashed with Israel Adesanya when defending his lineal middleweight title with Adesanya coming in as the interim titleholder at 185 pounds. This transpired in October 2019 at UFC 243 with Adesanya wresting the gold from Whittaker after halting him with a counter left hook in the second stanza of the fight.

'The Reaper' then climbed back up the middleweight rankings and put together a three-fight winning streak against Darren Till, Jared Cannonier, and Kelvin Gastelum. This earned him a second crack at Adesanya and another shot at the belt as well.

Robert Whittaker had a far more competitive effort the second time around in February 2022, but Adesanya emerged victorious via unanimous decision at UFC 271.

The native of New Zealand would rebound in September of that year as Whittaker notched a unanimous decision win over Marvin Vettori in their UFC Fight Night headliner.

The man known as 'Bobby Knuckles' would then fight Dricus Du Plessis in July of last year. This UFC 290 showdown saw DDP halt Robert Whittaker with strikes in the second round of their fight.
