Rodtang Jitmuangnon showcases newfound technical side against Jacob Smith
At ONE 157 back in May, Rodtang Jitmuangnon showcased his newfound tactician side coupled with his usual aggressive marauding style. In the quarterfinals bout of ONE flyweight Muay Thai world grand prix, Rodtang went up against the UK's No.1-ranked fighter, Jacob Smith.
The fight was expected to be an all-out brawl between two chaotic strikers but instead, it was a calculated storm courtesy of 'The Iron Man' with Smith as the casualty.
It was a cerebral, one-sided beatdown, as Rodtang revealed a new facet of his ever-evolving arsenal of weapons – patience.
Rodtang was relaxed, almost stoic in his attacks. The chaos was still there, but it wasn't just chaos - it was controlled chaos. By the third and final round, significant strikes caused Smith to wear a crimson mask. The Brit was pegged by fighters and pundits as the toughest challenge for Rodtang Jitmuangnon as he mirrors his fighting style.
By the end of the bout, however, Smith looked like he was wearing every bit of the damage Rodtang put on him. The Thai legend, however, barely had any scratches on him. It's exciting to see what kind of Rodtang we'll see once he laces the gloves once again and faces Joseph Lasiri on November 18.
