After four long years on the shelf, ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt will make his long-awaited return to the circle this spring as ONE Championship prepares for a historic event.

On May 5, the promotion will head to North America for the very first time. Emanating from the 1stBank Center in Colorado, ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video will feature a massive ONE flyweight world championship trilogy bout as Demetrious Johnson defends his title against former champion Adriano Moraes.

ONE recently announced that Northcutt will be part of the event, making his first walk to the circle since May 2019. Ahead of his highly anticipated return, ‘Super’ appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani to discuss his lengthy layoff.

Detailing a devastating injury suffered in his disastrous ONE debut, Northcutt also revealed he had an especially difficult bout with COVID that further delayed his comeback in 2021. When asked if the setbacks affected him mentally, Northcutt said:

“Obviously after that, yeah for sure. I mean, having a loss like that and then trying to come back on top of having an injury that - for sure a hundred percent, it kind of gets to you a little bit. But I try not to let it get to me too much, you know, and looking forward to the future to get to come back.“

During his time away from MMA, Sage Northcutt began to learn another difficult sport

With nearly four years away from the cage, one has to wonder how Sage Northcutt spent all of his free time, aside from recovering from one setback after another. Continuing with his conversation with Ariel Helwani, ‘Super’ spoke about another sport he tried out during his time away: snowboarding.

“I kind of got into snowboarding,” Northcutt said. “Actually, I’ve been looking at snowboarders, man, that’s a hard sport. If you didn’t start off young in that, that’s something you got to get used to.”

Though we haven’t seen any footage of Sage Northcutt on the slopes, we’re going to assume he’s far better in the cage than he is in the snow. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait much longer to see him return to the world-famous Circle. On May 5, Northcutt will square off against Pakistani MMA champion Ahmed Mujtaba.
