Sage Northcutt believes he’s evolved since the last time he fought.
Northcutt trains at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California, with the pioneering Urijah Faber as a coach. Although ‘Super’ Sage has been recovering from medical issues, he’s been able to focus on training over the last four years. During an interview with The MMA Superfan, the 27-year-old had this to say about being excited to showcase his training:
“I’m in a great gym, Team Alpha Male. They have very good grappling. So getting to train with great coaches, great teammates, and getting to really focus on that over the past several years actually has helped me to improve a lot so getting out there for my fight, looking forward to these future fights, and getting to show all the hard work that I’ve put in, all the grappling submissions, and different techniques that I’ve been training.”
Northcutt made his ONE Championship debut in May 2019 against Cosmo Alexandre. In the first round, Alexandre secured a first-round knockout win, leading to several facial fractures and a long recovery process for ‘Super’ Sage.

Making matters worse for Sage Northcutt, a bout with COVID-19 further derailed his return to competition. Four years later, the former multi-time karate world champion is ready to get back on track at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video.
Sage Northcutt is confident that he’s just getting started in MMA
Despite being sidelined for several years, Sage Northcutt is still young and has the skills to become a lightweight title contender. During an interview with ONE Championship, Northcutt opened up about the future of his fighting career by saying:
“I just had some time [to] take care of some personal things. It’s going to be exciting getting back in there. I’ll only be 26 years old, having 14 professional MMA fights, so I’m super excited. I feel like I’m just getting started and I’m still so young that I can have a lot of fights.”
Northcutt’s next fight will be inside the sold-out 1stBank Center in Colorado for the promotion’s first event on North American soil. ‘Super’ has been matched up against Ahmed Mujtaba, who is coming off back-to-back first-round finishes. The intriguing lightweight matchup is one of eleven bouts on May 5.
