Mixed martial arts star Sage Northcutt is shoring up his game for his much-awaited return to competition next month, getting help along the way from athletes even from other disciplines.

Among those ‘Super’ Sage has trained with in preparation for his fight at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video on May 5 in the United States was All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) Malakai Black.

While he admitted that professional wrestlers’ moves are different from what he typically does, Sage Northcutt said that he still learned a lot from his training sessions with the Dutch pro wrestling star.

He shared to The MMA Superfan:

“He showed a couple of cool things like what he does in pro-wrestling. They were pretty flashy moves, they’re a little different. Obviously in pro wrestling, they’re making sure that they’re not trying to hurt each other or put each other out obviously, but it’s a little bit different of a sport. But he has some really cool stuff to show and he’s super good at.”

At ONE Fight Night 10, Sage Northcutt will battle Pakistani fighter Ahmed Mujtaba in a featured lightweight contest. It will mark his return to action after nearly four years on the sidelines to deal with various medical issues.

Northcutt has been putting in the work to make it a winning return and show that he is back and ready to continue his ONE Championship journey.

Out to frustrate the Team Alpha Male affiliate is Ahmed Mujtaba, who is looking to strengthen his standing in the lightweight division by piling up the wins. The fighter from Quetta has won four of his six fights to date under the promotion, including the last two.

ONE Fight Night 10 is the promotion’s first-ever live on-ground event in the United States, happening at 1stBank Center in Colorado. It will be aired live and for free to all North American fans with an active Prime Video subscription.

Sage Northcutt eager to remind fans what he's capable of as a fighter, regardless of KO loss in ONE debut

More than just his return to active competition, American mixed martial artist Sage Northcutt is using his upcoming fight to reintroduce himself to fans.

‘Super’ will make his long-awaited comeback at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video on May 5 in Colorado, U.S.A. He will take on Ahmed Mujtaba of Pakistan in a lightweight collision, part of an 11-bout slate assembled for the landmark U.S. show.

The fight comes nearly four years after Sage Northcutt was knocked out in the opening round of his promotional debut in 2019 by Brazilian Cosmo Alexandre. In the aftermath, he suffered multiple facial fractures as well as a bout with COVID-19 that kept him out for a considerable amount of time.

It was a juncture in his career that he looks back on with regret, saying the unexpected detour deprived fans of the opportunity to really see who he was as a fighter. He shared to The MMA Hour:

“You asked about fans maybe forgetting or someone that might not know [me]. That’s the thing, I feel like coming into ONE Championship, I didn’t really get to show what I truly can do. And it was unfortunate what happened in my first fight with ONE Championship…”
