At ONE Fight Night 10, Sage Northcutt made his long-awaited return to the circle after a long and difficult four-year break in competition.
Following the injuries he sustained in his first fight under the ONE Championship banner, Northcutt was forced to take some time on the sidelines to undergo surgery and slowly make his recovery.
Then, ‘Super’ Sage was set to return in a contest with Japanese MMA legend Shinya Aoki. Unfortunately, the lightweight star caught COVID-19 just weeks before the bout, which further derailed his plans for a sophomore outing.
After coming back and defeating Ahmed Mujtaba in Broomfield, Colorado, Northcutt has expressed his interest in re-booking the fight with Aoki in the near future.

With a first-round finish under his belt, his first victory under the ONE banner, Northcutt is looking to keep building his momentum by staying active and challenging himself.
Facing off with a name like Aoki would be a landmark occasion for Northcutt that will certainly push him upwards in the stacked lightweight division, particularly due to Aoki's status as a former divisional king.
In an appearance on the Fistivities podcast with KB & Renato Laranja, Sage Northcutt spoke about the fight and a potential destination for the matchup:
“I’ve never been to Japan, but it looks amazing.”
