The build-up to the Sandy Ryan vs. Mikaela Mayer fight has seen Ryan criticize her American foe for incessant trash talk. Meanwhile, Mayer has lambasted the Englishwoman for stepping into her territory and procuring the services of her former coach (Kay Koroma). With the high stakes heading into the U.K. vs. U.S.A. grudge match, both fighters are expected to rake in lucrative paydays.

Ryan's most recent fight witnessed her defend her WBO welterweight title by securing a spectacular fourth-round stoppage victory against fellow Briton Terri Harper in March 2024. In the build-up to the match, an NY Fights report indicated that Harper was the more experienced professional boxer of the duo and had fought for many titles.

Generally, the more experienced championship-level fighter receives the bigger payout. Nevertheless, since Ryan was entering that fight as the reigning champion, she was expected to get paid the same amount or more than Harper. The overall purse for that clash wasn't greater than $300k, which was to be divided between the two combatants.

The other side of the Sandy Ryan vs. Mikaela Mayer equation has Mayer, a model who later succeeded as an amateur boxer. A 2015 ABC News report alluded to her being one of the top amateurs at the time, receiving merely $12k annually from the U.S.A. Boxing. However, a Dr. Pepper commercial and other such advertisement opportunities helped her bag a six-figure sum and fund herself before turning pro.

Mayer's most recent fight came in Jan. 2024. It saw her lose a controversial split decision against England's Natasha Jonas, who retained her IBF welterweight title.

Per NY Fights, Jonas was the defending champion entering that matchup and was expected to get a guaranteed purse of $500k. Her total payout was likely to be higher after pay-per-view (PPV) points and bonuses. Mayer's estimated purse for that fight was half of that, possibly around $300k.

Similarly, Marca reported that Mayer was expected to bag a payday that would be around half of the champion's purse. The popular boxer's potential payout for her fight against Jonas was estimated to be approximately $300k.

The purses for the Ryan vs. Mayer matchup haven't been officially revealed yet. Regardless, given the magnitude of their championship grudge match, Ryan's titleholder status, and Mayer's star power, the consensus is that they'll likely bag bigger paydays than their previous fights.
