Anthony Jeselnik's joke about fellow American comedian Joe Rogan has seemingly elicited mixed reactions from fight fans, the stand-up comedy community, and beyond.
Some feel Jeselnik's joke was a jibe at Rogan's alleged platforming of conspiracy theorists. Others argued that his remarks regarding the podcast mogul and UFC color commentator were simply a setup for a punchline.
On his latest Netflix special, 'Bones and All,' released on November 26, 2024, Jeselnik joked about Rogan's JRE (Joe Rogan Experience), a world-renowned podcast. Jeselnik stated:
"And yes, I did mention Joe Rogan. Guys, do not get me wrong. I like Joe. Joe is my friend. Joe is a good guy. But if you listen to his podcast, you're a f**king loser. My brother-in-law is Joe Rogan's biggest fan -- never misses an episode, doesn't think four hours is long enough. But my brother-in-law is Joe Rogan's target demographic. My brother-in-law is a conspiracy theorist, a crazy conspiracy theorist."

He continued:
"Like, my brother-in-law refuses to become an organ donor because he swears that if you get into an accident and the paramedics see that you're an organ donor, they won't try to save your life 'cause they wanna use your organs to help someone else. It's insane. But I can't argue with him. He's a paramedic."

Netizens chimed in, with a few X users lambasting Jeselnik over his supposed jab at Rogan. One user wrote:
"Damn, this guy used to be funny."
Certain sections of the socio-political realm have suggested that Rogan, who'd long supported the Democratic Party's politicians and the purported American left wing, has drifted toward the Republican Party and the American right-wing in recent years. One observer alluded that viewers of the supposedly left-wing media outlets tend to disapprove of Rogan:
"This guys watches CNN and The View instead"
A fan insinuated that Jeselnik was pandering to those who disagree with Rogan's views and the theories and theorists platformed on the JRE podcast. Meanwhile, another fan opined it was similar to a joke by the late comedian George Carlin:
"That organ donor thing is an old Carlin bit"
Moreover, several other netizens pointed out that Jeselnik wasn't criticizing Rogan or his podcast and was simply taking a shot at them to set up the joke's punchline:
"It's just a setup for a pretty funny tag."
An X user seemingly referenced Jeselnik's personal life, bringing up his reported previous relationship with American comedian Amy Schumer:
"Says the guy that dated Amy Schumer."

Anthony Jeselnik's appearance on Joe Rogan's JRE podcast
Anthony Jeselnik's 2024 Netflix special, 'Bones and All,' came five years after his previous Netflix special, 'Anthony Jeselnik: Fire in the Maternity Ward' (2019). Incidentally, both Netflix specials have had a rather uncanny connection with Joe Rogan and the JRE podcast.
The 2024 comedy special has been linked to Joe Rogan and JRE courtesy of Jeselnik's aforementioned joke, which has polarized viewers. Meanwhile, he himself appeared on JRE episode 1286 in April 2019 and promoted his 2019 special, as well as discussing various other topics such as personal relationships and more.
