Sean O'Malley has discussed the status of his relationship with Conor McGregor, admitting that comments recently made by the Irishman have changed his perception of him.

'Sugar' has often been compared to McGregor throughout his UFC career, as his cocky attitude, rich lifestyle and highlight reel finishes have resembled 'The Notorious' during his prime years in the promotion.

The pair also appeared to have a great respect for one another, with both often taking to social media to congratulate the other on their achievements. However, things soured between the two MMA stars in May earlier this year, when McGregor reacted to boxer Ryan Garcia's positive tests for the banned subtance Ostarine.

In a now deleted tweet, Conor McGregor took aim at Garcia, as well as Sean O'Malley, as the 29-year-old had also previously tested positive for the same banned substance back in 2018.

Following McGregor's tweet, both he and O'Malley have traded back-and-forth on social media about a potential bout in the future. Whilst it's unlikely to happen, O'Malley has provided an update on the situation and their status during a recent interview with ESPN MMA.

Speaking to Brett Okamoto, the men's bantamweight champ said:

"You go back, all my interviews I'd say I wanna be like Conor. I wanna do what Conor did. Now I'm 29. I've defended the belt, something he's never done by the way. I just feel pure jealousy from him."

He added:

"Right now, I'm not a huge fan of Conor. The stuff that he was saying on Twitter [X], the stuff that affected my life. He's laughing at it and then he goes and deletes it because he's on drugs...We're not on great terms."

Sean O'Malley addresses UFC Noche clashing with Canelo Alvarez boxing match

Sean O'Malley has revealed he isn't intimidated by his upcoming UFC Noche title defense clashing with Canelo Alvarez, as both fights are scheduled for the same night.

The UFC Noche event, which will take place at the Las Vegas Sphere, will be directly competing for viewership with the boxing star.

'Sugar' then addressed the clash during a recent episode of his podcast with his coach, Tim Welch. According to O'Malley, he believes his bout against Merab Dvalishvili will have no problem stealing the headlines from Alvarez. He said:

"When it comes to Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, who are they talking about? Are they talking about Canelo, are they talking about the boxing fight, or are they talking about the absolute dominating, beautiful, masterful, masterclass performance I put on Merab and the viral knockout that came with it?"
