Sean O'Malley is a fight fan, and never misses an opportunity to express his appreciation for fighting. Naturally, he had thoughts to share on the upcoming heavyweight boxing match between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, who are scheduled to clash next Saturday on June 15.

In a recent interview with The Mac Life, the reigning UFC bantamweight champion spoke about the bout, including who he'd prefer to emerge victorious. Given O'Malley's history with Sonnen, his answer is unlikely to surprise fans familiar with the pair's friendly dynamic.

"I'd love to see uncle Chael get it done, but we'll see."

While there is no way to know beyond a shadow of a doubt who will win, Silva will be heavily favored to beat his old rival in a boxing match. 'The Spider' is the far more accomplished striker, having reigned over the UFC middleweight division as its greatest-ever champion due to the strength of his great striking.

Furthermore, he has more boxing experience, even having a split-decision win over former WBC middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr. back in 2021. Sonnen, meanwhile, is a wrestler by trade, having never been known for his striking. In fact, much of his career was defined by his lack of punching power. Additionally, he has no significant boxing experience as well.

The pair will meet in a five-round exhibition bout, with each round lasting just two minutes.

Sean O'Malley is seeking a boxing match of his own

Following his UFC bantamweight title-winning knockout over Aljamain Sterling, Sean O'Malley expressed a desire to replicate Conor McGregor's boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. by taking on the latter's protégé, Gervonta Davis. However, the matchup is unlikely to happen.

"I also wouldn't mind knocking out Gervonta Davis. And I know people are going to say I want to be like Conor [McGregor]... I'm telling you, that fight is going to happen."

Check out Sean O'Malley talking about fighting Gervonta Davis:

He has since set his sights on polarizing boxing superstar Ryan Garcia, who made the stunning claim that he could beat 'Sugar' in an MMA bout, inspiring a mocking skit from the bantamweight titleholder. Despite the pair's mutual interest in a fight, it is unlikely to happen for various reasons, least of all O'Malley's UFC contract.
