Serhii Bohachuk vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr. is in the books. The highly anticipated event took place at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Aug. 10. It featured three title fights among several other interesting matchups in seven different weight classes. This article recaps the full event and explores the full results.

Bohachuk's interim WBC super welterweight title was on the line in the main event. The Ukrainian boxer attempted the first defense of his title against the undefeated Ortiz Jr. He won the belt by defeating Brian Mendonza by unanimous decision in March 2024. It was the first decision win of Bohachuk's professional boxing career as all 23 of his previous wins came by T/KO.

Meanwhile, Ortiz Jr. boasted a 100 percent finish rate heading into the latest fight.

Both men fought aggressively from the get-go and the fight soon turned into an absolute war. Bohachuk knocked Ortiz Jr. down with an overhand in the first round. However, it had little impact on Ortiz Jr.'s performance in the subsequent rounds.

As Ortiz Jr. appeared to be leading in the early rounds, Bohachuk made a strong comeback after the midway point, scoring another knockdown in the eighth round.

Ortiz Jr. changed the strategy after Round 10 and stayed committed to throwing jabs to the body and head. Bohachuk appeared to be struggling to adjust and was put on wobbly legs several times in the Rounds 11 and 12. However, he continued to offer resistance and landed a few good shots of his own.

Two judges scored the closely contested fight in Ortiz Jr.'s favor while the third judge had it as a draw. With the win, Ortiz Jr. became the new interim WBC super welterweight champion. This was the first decision win of his professional boxing career.

In the co-main event, highly touted prospect Charles Conwell fought Khiary Gray. Conwell was a considerable favorite heading into the contest and had his eyes set on a potential Vergil Ortiz Jr. fight.

Conwell took control of the ring from the get-go and displayed superior technique and footwork. A body punch appeared to have hurt Gray during a close-range exchange in the second round. After distracting him with a few punches to the head, Conwell caught his opponent with another vicious body shot, sending him crashing to the canvas. He won the contest by KO after Gray could not answer the 10-count.

Serhii Bohachuk vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr. undercard results: Gabriela Fundora and Joel Iriarte win

In a super welterweight bout on the main card, Kenneth Sims Jr. outclassed Jonathan Romero, forcing his corner to stop the fight.

The event also featured two women's title fights. The first of them was contested for the IBF flyweight title as champion Gabriela Fundora attempted the second defense of her reign against Daniela Asenjo.

Being the taller and longer fighter, Fundora used her reach effectively to keep Asenjo at the end of her punches. Asenjo had her moments and tried to find the mark. However, Fundora never allowed her to enjoy consistent success and retained the title with a unanimous decision win.

In the main card opening bout, Joel Iriarte did quick work of Miguel Ortiz, handing him the first defeat of his professional boxing career. Iriarte rocked Ortiz with a sharp left hook in the first round. He overwhelmed him with a barrage of follow-up punches against the rope until the referee stepped in to stop the contest.

Serhii Bohachuk vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr. prelims: Cecilia Braekhus becomes the interim WBC super welterweight champion

WBC and WBO super welterweight champion Ema Kozin was expected to fight challenger Cecilia Braekhus in the third title fight of the event. However, Kozin was forced to pull out due to visa issues a few days before the event and was replaced by fellow Slovenian boxer Maricela Cornejo. Braekhus and Cornejo competed for the interim WBC super welterweight title.

Braekhus appeared to be better prepared and displayed superior striking. She also scored the only knockdown of the fight. However, Cornejo seemed to have lost balance due to her foot position rather than getting dropped with the impact of the strike. Braekhus cruised to a comfortable unanimous decision victory to win the interim WBC super welterweight title.

Undefeated rising prospects Johnny Canas and Eric Priest added wins to their records, outpointing Joseph Cruz and Luca Lozo, respectively. Both men displayed better boxing and won every round of their fights.

Jordan Fuentes made his professional boxing debut against a relative newcomer James Mulder in a four-round bantamweight fight. Having lost both of his previous fights, Mulder fought a gritty battle to try and score his first professional boxing victory. However, Fuentes proved to be the better boxer and walked away with a unanimous decision victory.
