Serhii Bohachuk vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr.: Live round-by-round updates

Serhii Bohachuk vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr. will go down later this evening at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, with Bohachuk's WBC interim super welterweight title on the line.

The interim champion (24-1) is currently on a six-fight win streak and has been more active than his opponent in recent years. Add to that he has won all but one of his fights via knockout, 'El Flaco' is one of the most dangerous fighters at 154 pounds.

Ortiz Jr. (21-0) meanwhile, is seen by many as the next big thing in boxing. All of his wins have come via knockout, with his most recent fight ending in a first-round KO against Thomas Dulorme.

Despite his undeniable boxing skills, health problems have cost him valuable time in his career. A win this weekend might just propel him to an undisputed title fight.

Per CBS Sports, Ortiz Jr. is a -330 favorite for the matchup, with Bohachuk as the +250 underdog.

Round 1

Bohachuk comes in with jabs and Oritz comes in over the top with a right hand. This is a high-octane first round as both fighters are engaging readily. The fighters connect on each other with jabs.

Ortiz slips and falls to the ground. As the fight restarts Bohachuk sinks in double uppercuts on the inside. An overhand right by Oriz Jr. momentarily buckles 'El Flaco's' legs. The Ukrainian is trying to punch his way out of trouble.

This one is turning out to be an absolute firefight.

Note: Ortiz Jr's supposed trip has been ruled a knockdown.

Round 2

Ortiz Jr. sinks in a powerful body shot and follows up with a left hand and right hook upstairs. the American sinks in another uppercut. Bohahcuk is still in the fight and is applying pressure on his opponent with straight punches. However, his shots seem to lack the same pop as his opponent.

A huge right-hand lands for Oriz at the bell.

Round 3

Ortiz is peppering up his opponent with body shots. Bohachuk is trying to head hunt but is finding it hard to land clean on his aggressive opponent. Oritz Jr. is committing to body shots to open up opportunities upstairs.

A crushing right hand up top lands for Ortiz. A big uppercut lands for the American. He closes the round with a good combination on the inside.

Round 4

Bohachuk is still in this fight. He is trying to pressure his opponent. However, he is failing to land with the same consistency as his opponent. Meanwhile, Ortiz is constantly landing jabs on his opponent.

Ortiz Jr. lands a crushing overhand right and 'El Flaco' returns fire with a right-hand left hook combo.

The Ukrainian lands an uppercut on the inside. Ortiz connects with an overhand right counter to end the round. A close round.

Round 5

Ortiz Jr. is employing body shots. The accumulated damage is sure to catch up with Bohachuk in the later rounds. 'El Flaco' connects with a crushing uppercut. The 26-year-old Amercian connects switch a flurry on his opponent.

Ortiz Jr. is the more accurate fighter this round. A nice right hand over the top wobbles Bohachuk. Ortiz Jr. ends the round with a multi-punch flurry.

Round 6

both fighters are employing jabs. 'El Flaco' is smothering Ortiz Jr. denying his opponent the opportunity to land clean punches. A one-two lands for Ortiz Jr. and Bohhachuk fires back with a right hook.

Bohachuk is trying to line up his right hand. Ortiz connects with an uppercut followed by a right hand. A very close round. Both fighters had their moments.

Round 7

Ortiz is digging into the body. He follows up with a right uppercut and a left hook to the body. 'El Flaco' returns with two right hands. Lest hand followed by a straight hand lands for Buhachuk.

While Ortiz is still on the offensive Ortiz Jr.'s work rate seems to have diminished. Ortiz closes the round with a one-two. A very close round

Round 8

As the eighth round commences Bohachuk seems to be the fresher fighter. A hard right hand followed by and uppercut lands for Bohachuk. A flurry sends Ortiz Jr. to the canvas, all be it for a split second. The referee rules it a knockdown.

Ortiz seems intent ot get back at his opponent for that knockdown. He chases his opponent with a flurry. Bohachuk seems to be on wobbly legs. Both fighters duke it out to end the round. Buhachuk seems like he is ready to go down.

Round 9

Ortiz is getting stung by his opponent, but the American fires back with a counter-overhand right. both fighters are landing significant blows. This is going to be a tough one to score.

Bohachuks incessant jabs have bruised up his opponent's right eye. Ortiz Jr. is recommitting to body shots. Ortiz finishes the round landing a big uppercut.

Round 10

Ortiz Jr. getting peppered up by his opponent on the corner. Now the American comes back with a short left hook. A left hook followed by a right hook lands for Bohachuk in the clinch.

Ortiz Jr.'s work rate has clearly diminished, however, his still landing enough to be still in the fight. The American is now resorting to volume instead of power. This seems ot be throwing off Bohachuk's rhythm. Ortiz Jr. ends the round with a right hand.

Round 11

Ortiz Jr. has now dialed down on power and is employing more volume. A right hand from Bohachuk stuns Ortiz. Moments later a left hook from Ortiz wobbles 'El Flaco'.

Bohachuk is still on his foot. Ortiz Jr. is technically yet ot land a knockout in this fight. Double right hand and for 'El Flaco' A left hand followed by right lands for Ortiz Jr. at the end of the round.

Round 12

Both fighters are landing. Ortiz Jr. stuns his opponent with a right hand. He is still on wobbly legs. A few more power shots might finish the fight.

Now, Bohachuk returns fire with a trio of right hands. Ortiz Jr. lands a left hand followed by a right hook up top. Both fighters are laying it all on the line. We might yet get a knockout.

A body shot by Ortiz Jr. backs up his opponent. The American seems to have taken over the round. Both fighters end the fight landing bombs on each other.
