ONE Championship’s latest Russian debutant Shamil Gasanov made a big first impression on his promotional debut at ONE on Prime Video 3 on Friday night. Stepping into the circle for the very first time, Gasanov met No.2-ranked featherweight contender Kim Jae Woong.
Fans inside Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, were ready for a 15-minute war. Instead, they were treated to two minutes of absolute domination.
Sizing up Kim Jae Woong in the opening 90 seconds, Gasanov shot in for a takedown and handily rag dolled Kim, throwing him to the canvas and taking his back in the process.
From there, it was just a matter of moments before the undefeated Russian worked his arm under the chin of his South Korean opponent, locking in a rear-naked choke and forcing the tap at 2:09 of the very first round.

Following the contest, Mitch Chilson joined Shamil Gasanov in the circle to discuss his win. That’s when Gasanov called out two very big names, including the ONE featherweight world champion, Tang Kai:
“Tang Kai, Garry Tonon, everybody. Everybody I smash anywhere! Just give me five minutes and I’ll smash everyone.”
Shamil Gasanov’s brother issued him a unique challenge heading into his ONE debut
Following his monstrous debut performance against Kim Jae Woong at ONE on Prime Video 3, Shamil Gasaov revealed that his brother gave him a fairly unique challenge. Either win in two minutes or walk back home.
“My brother’s here, he said ‘You have two minutes. If you will not submit him in two minutes, you will walk back home.’ It doesn’t matter for me. I only have two minutes to put him down, it doesn’t matter what I do to submit him.”
Gasanov narrowly missed the window, submitting Kim at 2:09 of the first round, but perhaps the $50,000 bonus will earn him some leeway with the family. Before exiting the circle, Gasanov had some additional words for featherweight grappling sensation Garry Tonon.
“You see, I took a risk in my debut. I took the No.2 guy. Garry Tonon, I’ll give you one, I can do the grappling with him as well, it doesn't matter.”
