Colby Covington hasn't had the best past two years, suffering back-to-back losses to Leon Edwards and now Joaquin Buckley, where his performances have been subpar. However, the UFC Tampa loss to Buckley was due to a cut and doctor stoppage, with which both UFC CEO Dana White and the fans disagreed.
White addressed Covington's cut at the post-fight press conference. While he understands that the cut was bothering Covington given how often he kept wiping it to keep the blood from flowing, he believes that had the fight taken place in Las Vegas, there would have been no doctor stoppage.
White said:
"Yeah, I was curious to see how it would go if it went five rounds, you know, if it went later in the rounds. You know, no doubt that was a bad cut, but fight doesn't get stopped in Vegas. That fight keeps going in Vegas. 100%."

Check out Dana White's thoughts on Colby Covington's cut:
A different MMA account shared a picture of Covington's cut, complete with the cage side doctor's assessment of the injury. The fear was that Covington would have run the risk of losing his eyelid had he continued fighting. Naturally, Covington disagreed with the verdict.
He is, after all, a former interim welterweight champion, known for his legendary toughness.
Ultimately, the fans agreed with White and were none too pleased with the doctor stoppage. One fan completely lambasted the logic behind the stoppage, blaming the doctor's apparent weakness to graphic injuries.
"Say what you want about Colby, but that was a weaaaak stop. The doc looked visibly squeamish"
Others characterized the doctor as inexperienced.
"Noob doctor. She looked soft and grossed out. Not the person for the job. Was leaking bad tho no doubt."
Another fan urged her to watch more UFC fights.
"She should watch some UFC..."
Some even claimed that the decision came down to the doctor being a woman.
"This gon sound sexist and it is but had to be a woman lmao"

There's no telling where Covington goes following the loss, but he will tumble down further away from the top of the division.
Colby Covington is no stranger to controversial stoppages
Colby Covington's UFC 245 title fight with then-welterweight champion Kamaru Usman ended with a fifth-round stoppage. However, the TKO was criticized for being premature in the eyes of some.
Covington lambasted the referee following the fight, accused Usman of faking a groin shot that was a body kick, and expressed general outrage.
