Kade Ruotolo spent a long time preparing for his MMA debut before deciding to make the jump at ONE 167 last month.
During this time, the ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion looked to build a solid team around him that would help him through this process.
This led to Kade getting his hand raised at the Impact Arena when he submitted Blake Cooper in the very first round.
Before he made his way to Bangkok for his long awaited MMA debut, the grappling star gained some invaluable experience from one of the greatest to ever do it.

ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson got some training in with Kade before featuring him as a guest on his podcast.
In an interview on The MMA Hour after he secured the debut win, Kade reflected on the experience of training alongside 'Mighty Mouse'.
"It was so amazing, it was such an awesome experience. So much knowledge to share on both ends, it was like, it was a blessing for sure to be there with him."

A huge reason why Kade Ruotolo wanted to compete in MMA was because he grew up as a fan of the sport.
Training with Demetrious Johnson was undoubtedly a bucket list moment for him but the feeling was mutual in many ways.
Having recently dedicated himself to grappling, Johnson was clearly in his element trading knowledge about the sport and techniques during his time interviewing Kade on his podcast.
As two of the best minds in their specialist fields, Kade and Demetrious make a perfect duo that will have benefitted each other during the session.
Johnson is sure to have a close eye on Kade throughout his transition to becoming a serious force in MMA.
Ruotolo is back in action at ONE 168 in Denver when he faces Mikey Musumeci in a grappling super fight.
