Paige VanZant claims Power Slap debut was "best case scenario" for her
Former UFC fighter Paige VanZant must have felt a rush of excitement and a flicker of nerves when the offer to compete in Power Slap was presented to her.
The American recently narrated the account leading up to the signing, claiming that her manager was against it. However, the way she sees it, the quick signing and turnaround prevented her from getting any pre-fight jitters. Speaking in an interview with MMA Fighting, VanZant said:
“My manager, I don’t even know how it happened, we were talking about Power Slap, how crazy it was. We were at lunch and I was like, ‘Well, yeah, I would do it.’ He’s like, ‘No,’ and I said, ‘No, seriously, I would.’ Then all of a sudden, I talked to Dana on the phone about it, and I was like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ I got the contract that same week and then I found out they wanted me on the Vegas card and it was two weeks away. She added:
“I was like, there’s no time like the present. I don’t have time to stress about it or really get too nervous. I wanted to be thrown into the fire, so honestly, it was the best-case scenario.”
