Stamp Fairtex excited to have support of hometown crowd in ONE Championship’s return to Bangkok

At the first event of the year, ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video, Stamp Fairtex will make her opening appearance of 2023. With a stacked card for January 14, Stamp is always going to be one of the main attractions.

Back fighting in front of her home fans in Bangkok, she will face elite striker Anissa Meksen in ONE Championship’s second-ever mixed-rules fight.

In an interview with SCMP MMA, Stamp spoke about being back in front of the fans in Thailand and what that adds to the fight:

“I’m very happy that I’m back fighting in Thailand because it’s such a great comeback and people at Fairtex can go watch me -- my family, my friends. It’s also a bit of pressure, but I’m also very excited and also looking forward to having all of my friends and family to be there for me.”

After Meksen referred to Stamp as just a “dancer,” the former multi-sport world champion comes into the fight with a point to prove.

With her always developing overall game, this will be a chance for Stamp Fairtex to prove that she can still hang with the best strikers on the planet, whilst also showcasing the other skills that she has picked up whilst competing in MMA.

“There’s a lot of technique that I need to learn” - Stamp Fairtex focused on grappling to close gap with Angela Lee

At ONE X last March, Stamp Fairtex fell short in becoming a three-sport world champion.

Facing atomweight MMA world champion Angela Lee, Stamp’s impressive run in MMA came to an end. However, she hasn’t been deterred in her goal to add another world championship to her legacy.

In the same interview, Stamp spoke about focusing on improving her grappling game. By rounding out her overall skill set, she believes that she will be able to narrow the gap between her and Lee the next time they face each other.

Stamp Fairtex said:

“I think that BJJ is a very important thing to learn against Angela Lee and I’ve learned a lot of techniques. She’s [Angela] a black belt and [I’m] right now a purple belt. So there’s a lot of technique that I need to learn.”

Two of ONE Championship’s biggest stars met on the biggest stage possible as Lee returned to competition after a two-and-a-half-year break following her pregnancy.

After Stamp hurt the defending champion in the first round, it was Lee’s grappling that gave her the edge over Stamp. Able to recover and secure takedowns, Lee won the fight via submission in the second round.

After coming so close to becoming a world champion in MMA, Stamp Fairtex has continued to work on her MMA skill set so that she will have the ability to compete with Angela Lee wherever the fight goes.
