Stephen Thompson breaks down his epic battle with Kevin Holland
Appearing in a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Stephen Thompson discussed his recently concluded fight with Kevin Holland.
Giving a breakdown of what his approach was against the 'Trailblazer,' Thompson revealed that he had planned to take on Holland in a striking match with an open stance. This means he would be in a southpaw position. His plan was to dodge Holland's right hand while throwing his own left hand and making sure it landed before Holland's right.
Speaking of the fight, the fighter also acknowledged getting "smoked" with Holland's right hand while trying to switch sides:
"Round one, he ends up smoking me with the right hand because I switched sides. I had my left foot in front. And he ends up smoking me with his right hand. But thank goodness I was blessed with a hard head. I recovered and got right back into the game. Yes, it hurt me, man. I heard my ears start ringing."
Speaking about how he countered Holland's shots, 'Wonderboy' said:
"So, I put my right side back forward again in that open stance, and I was flushly landing that left hand. So, I kind of stuck with that a little bit. Threw a little bit of side kicks, found my mark with that left hand."
