"Steroids are legal" - Gordon Ryan slams Mikey Musumeci's "moral high ground" about use of PEDs in BJJ, claims it's not cheating

Gordon Ryan has slammed Mikey Musumeci for his recent comments about hoping to eradicate steroids from Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The sport is currently rife with performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) due to the lack of drug-testing in most competitions and events.

While athletes such as 'Darth Rigatoni' and the Ruotolo brothers Tye and Kade have taken pride in maintaining their status as "clean athletes," others, like Ryan, have been clear that they have no issue using PEDs.

Given their opposing stances, the two have had verbal clashes in the past. Ahead of Musumeci's debut on UFC Fight Pass, he appeared in front of the media and shared his thoughts on the use of PEDs in the sport.

Musumeci said:

"Other people like Gordon [Ryan] and Craig [Jones], they definitely help the sport grow in different ways. But I feel like what I'm doing now is definitely the most important thing for grappling."

Gordon Ryan took to the comments section of MMAFighting's Instagram post to issue a lengthy response to Musumeci. An excerpt from his retort read:

"...Get off your moral high ground, dork. This guys is talking about cheating. Steroids are legal in every competition minus specific IBJJF competitions since 2019. It's not cheating. All I hear is an excuse for why you could never do what others, specifically I have done..."

Gordon Ryan explains beef with Mikey Musumeci

Gordon Ryan is the consensus best no-gi grappler in the world, with Mikey Musumeci not far behind him as one of the best pound-for-pound grapplers worldwide.

Despite them being on opposite ends of the weight spectrum, with Ryan competiting at heavyweight whilst Musumeci competes at bantamweight, the pair have had some animosity for quite some time now.

During his recent appearance on Jake Shields' podcast, 'The King' discussed his beef with 'Darth Rigatoni.' Ryan said:

"Mikey just attacked me. All I've ever done is talk highly of Mikey. The thing about Mikey, is he's been doing passive aggressive shots at me forever... He'll make one post that's like, 'If you take steroids you're mentally weak. You're too weak. You need a crutch. You need an out. Blah, blah, blah.' Then his very next post will be like, 'I'm depressed and I'm sad and we need to talk about mental health.' It's like, bro just f**king do your thing."
