Stipe Miocic wants to fight for the UFC heavyweight championship in his next fight.

After months of confusion and speculation, the UFC heavyweight division has a clear future. Francis Ngannou has been released from the UFC and will likely test the free-agent market. Ngannou last defended the title against Ciryl Gane a year ago at UFC 270. Coincidentally, Gane is now fighting for the vacant throne.

During the UFC Vegas 67 media press conference, Dana White announced Gane would fight Jon Jones for the undisputed championship on March 4 at UFC 285. Jones was recently rumored to be fighting Miocic before the matchup fell through. The former UFC heavyweight champion had this to say about ‘Bones’ vs. ‘Bon Gamin’:

“March 4th - I like it. I got winner in July.”

According to the UFC president, Jones was ready to fight anyone. The Ngannou fight didn't materialize as the Cameroonian was recovering from knee surgery and negotiating his contract. Meanwhile, it was rumored that Miocic wanted more money to fight ‘Bones'. The Ohio native now wants the next heavyweight title shot.

Fans react to Stipe Miocic calling out the winner between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane

Stipe Miocic allegedly wanted more money before fighting again. The former heavyweight champion remained silent for months and didn’t seem overly motivated to fight Jon Jones. Hence, MMA fans were caught off guard by his sudden callout for a title shot.

Miocic posted his callout on Twitter, with a fan replying:

“Getting brutally KOd and sitting out for 3 years doesn’t earn you a title shot. Gotta get through Blaydes or Pavlovich first lol”
“HW division all of a sudden active. Not a coincidence.”
“Where was this energy for the year and a half? You need a win before fighting for the belt again”
“AND THE REAL CHAMP SPEAKS !!”
“I need Jones vs. Miocic and McGregor vs. Chandler on the same card”

Miocic last fought in March 2021, losing the heavyweight title to Francis Ngannou. The 40-year-old is one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, but there are concerns about his motivation to fight again. If he is serious about fighting Jones or Gane, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get his wish.
