The interplay between Stipe Miocic, Jon Jones, and Tom Aspinall has created a gripping narrative in the UFC heavyweight landscape. While interim champion Aspinall believes that he's the rightful challenger to face heavyweight king Jon Jones, the UFC is working on rescheduling the Jones vs. Miocic clash.

There are rumors that the fight will be scheduled for UFC 309 which goes down on Nov. 16, at the Madison Square Garden in New York. However, if Aspinall's assertions hold true, Miocic could be injured ahead of the potential fight against Jones. Speaking on his YouTube channel about the potential clash, Aspinall said:

"I’m hearing rumors that Stipe is potentially injured, this is stuff that I’m hearing from (my) inner circle, Stipe I believe his birthday was yesterday actually. He’s 42-years-old the guy is gonna be injury-prone."

Tom Aspinall is preparing to serve as a backup for the Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic clash

Stipe Miocic will potentially take on Jon Jones next in a bid to become a three-time UFC heavyweight champion. The 42-year-old hasn't competed since he dropped the title to Francis Ngannou via knockout at UFC 260 back in March 2021.

In his absence from competition, Jones moved up to the heavyweight bracket and defeated Ciryl Gane to claim the championship. Meanwhile, UK heavyweight sensation Tom Aspinall has also been making waves in the division by claiming the interim championship by defeating Sergei Pavlovich via first-round knockout and defending it recently against Curtis Blaydes.

Aspinall recently claimed that he's already back in training to serve as the backup for the Jones vs. Miocic clash. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said:

“After my last fight with Curtis Blaydes, there was some talk about being the backup fighter. The UFC spoke to me directly about that. I said, ‘I’m in. Somebody pulls out, I’m in.'”
