Nico Carrillo opened up about what Muay Thai skill he wants to improve.
In April 2023, Carrillo made his ONE Championship debut at ONE Friday Fights 13. Since then, the Scottish bantamweight has remained undefeated in the promotion, securing four knockout wins in Muay Thai.
Carrillo recently did an interview with Sky Sports where he was honest about a specific aspect of fighting that he could improve on:
"Clinching as well, spending more time in Thailand and in ONE Championship, you don’t really have to clinch so much, but when you know how to clinch with the small gloves on, it’s still such an advantage. And even though you don’t really get to clinch a lot in fights, it’s still something, at the end of it, is Muay Thai. Clinching is such a big part of Muay Thai. And so improving that is still very important to me."

Nico Carrillo looks to showcase improvements against Superlek
On January 24, 2025, Nico Carrillo will fight for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title. 'King of the North' must be prepared for an elite test, as he's scheduled to face two-sport world champion Superlek.
Carrillo is the first fighter to challenge Superlek for his bantamweight Muay Thai throne. The Thai superstar claimed the strap with a shocking 49-second knockout against Jonathan Haggerty in the ONE 168: Denver main event in September.
Superlek vs. Carrillo will be featured in the ONE 170 co-main event, which goes down inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. The upcoming event can be seen live and for free by North American and Canadian viewers with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
In the main event, Jo Nattawut looks to avenge his two losses against Tawanchai, one in kickboxing and the other in Muay Thai. This time around, Nattawut will challenge Tawanchai for his ONE featherweight Muay Thai world title.
