The eagerly awaited WBC interim flyweight championship fight between Sunny Edwards vs. Galal Yafai boxing match finally concluded with a victory for Yafai. The Birmingham native advanced his record to 9-0 with this victory besides capturing the WBC interim flyweight title.
Both Edwards and Yafai took to the ring in full confidence. However, the undefeated boxer played the aggressor's role in the initial minutes of the fight. Edwards threw a few wild strikes in the initial minutes to keep his rival at bay. Yafai used his reach to land several powerful hooks on his rival.
Edwards maintained a low stance to keep himself sage from the head-hunting shots of Yafai. The Birmingham native pressured Edwards to the ropes multiple times in the initial rounds, thereby landing a few hard punches. The defending WBC interim flyweight champ landed a few jabs of his own, but Yafai's pressure overwhelmed him. The 31-year-old looked far ahead of his rival at the end of the first quarter of the fight.
Edwards came back into the fight in the latter minutes of the fifth round as he landed a few good punches. Yafai resorted to pressurizing his rival right from the initial minutes of the sixth round. The undefeated boxer manged to push his rival to a corner and unleashed a barrage of combinations on him. After watching Edwards doing little to defend them, the referee stepped in to the stop the fight at 2:20 of the same round.

This victory marked Yafai's third win of the year after defeating Agustin Gauto and Sergio Daniel Orozco. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, detailed that he would fix his target on capturing the undisputed WBC world flyweight championship next.
On the other hand, Edwards declared his retirement from professional boxing after this loss against Yafai. His record went down to 21-2 following his defeat.
