At ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24th, Danial Williams has a huge opportunity on his hands. Originally scheduled to make his return to Muay Thai in Singapore against Rui Botehlo, Williams was offered the chance to take a late-notice fight and step up into the main event spot.

ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 was set to face off in a striking super-fight with flyweight Muay Thai king Rodtang Jitmuangnon in the night's final bout.

After it was announced that an injury had forced Rodtang to withdraw, Williams was more than willing to step up and grab hold of this huge opportunity. He is no stranger to coming in at short notice to save that day and put on a show for the fans. Back in his ONE Championship debut, he accepted a last-minute fight with Rodtang that announced him as a fan favorite.

In an interview with ONE Championship, 'Mini T’ spoke about coming into this fight full of confidence:

“This is a blessing in disguise for me because I’ve had a really good camp. When I fought Rodtang, it was really short notice. I’d had a layoff of two years without properly training.”

He added:

“I’m super confident about the fight and the pressure’s off because I’m going to embrace this week and I’m just going to go for it. I feel like I’ve sort of manifested things like this, so I’ve just got to make the most of it.”

Danial Williams happy ONE Friday Fights ‘gives a platform’ for many fighters

Danial Williams has made it very clear from his arrival in ONE Championship that he wants to prove his ability as an all-round martial artist. Since making his debut as a Muay Thai fighter, Williams has spent the last year competing in the strawweight MMA division. He has risen through the ranks to establish himself as a contender.

At ONE Fight Night 8, ’Mini T’ was set to compete in Muay Thai once again. However, the opportunity came up for him to step into the main event and fight for the flyweight kickboxing world championship in the titleholder Superlek Kiatmoo9’s first defense.

ONE’s Friday Fights Series, hosted every week inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, has made sure that the divisions stay very active with new fighters constantly emerging as contenders.

Whilst Danial Williams may not have been active in ONE’s striking divisions, he has been making sure to stay up to date with all of the contests so that he doesn’t get too far left behind. In an interview with ONE Championship spoke about how he sees it as a positive for the promotion:

“I think it's pretty cool that they're doing it every Friday because it just gives a platform for many fighters to come up. So this should just make the strawweight division a lot bigger with a lot more variety of fighters to come out of that.”

Danial Williams will take on ‘The Kicking Machine’ at ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24th. The entire event will be broadcast live and for free via Prime Video for North American viewers.
