At ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video, Superlek Kiatmoo9 will get his shot at the ONE flyweight kickboxing world championship.

Originally scheduled to face Ilias Ennahachi in a rematch for the world title, the defending champ pulled out of the contest and vacated his belt due to being unable to make the flyweight limit whilst hydrated.

In his place, Spain’s Daniel Puertas will step in to face Superlek for the vacant world title. He previously being scheduled to fight Rodtang Jitmuangnon lower down the card.

Puertas is coming off of a win over China’s Jiduo Yibu, who will now replace him as Rodtang’s next opponent.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Superlek spoke about his analysis of his upcoming opponent and how he plans on using his biggest weakness against him:

“Puertas’ strength is his fearsome punches. I have to watch his movement closely and prepare for an impact. But at the same time, he will leave a gap after he punches. This is his weakness. He can’t defend himself well after he throws a big punch, and that’s my chance to counter.”

The Thai fighter won four straight contests in 2022 and would’ve been crowned the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix champion had he made weight ahead of the final against Panpayak Jitmuangnon.

Superlek respects Ilias Ennahachi’s decision to vacate flyweight kickboxing belt

Superlek Kiatmoo9 was originally scheduled to face Ilias Ennahachi this Friday night at ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video. With the ONE flyweight kickboxing world championship on the line, he was disappointed to learn that he would be facing a new opponent on January 13.

Ennahachi informed ONE Championship that he would unfortunately be unable to safely make the flyweight limit for his co-main event world title clash. Vacating his world championship as a result, the show must go on and Superlek will still compete for the world title.

In an interview with ONE Championship, the Thai fighter spoke about how he reacted to the news:

“I feel a bit disappointed that I can’t have a showdown with Ilias. I have been waiting for this rematch for two years. But I respect his decision.”

In 2021, they met for the first time at ONE: Fists of Fury. On that occasion, Ennahachi walked away with a unanimous decision win, defending his world title. A rematch between the two has been long-awaited after many were left unsatisfied with the result of their previous bout.

The silver lining to the situation is that fans will still see the Thai fighter get his ONE world title fight on Friday night. Rather than getting his long-awaited rematch with Ennahachi, Superlek will square off with Daniel Puertas for the vacant ONE flyweight kickboxing world championship.

ONE Fight Night 6 is available live and for free to all North American subscribers of Prime Video.
