At ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24, ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 will face off against a dangerous challenger.

Looking to defend his recently acquired world championship for the first time, ‘The Kicking Machine’ will have his work cut out for him when he meets Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Back at ONE Fight Night 6 in January, ONE’s flyweight Muay Thai world champ scored a win under the kickboxing ruleset over China’s Jiduo Yibu. On the same night, the vacant title was contested in the main event, with Superlek defeating Daniel Puertas to become the division’s new king.

The defending champion is well aware of the dangers that ‘The Iron Man’ brings to the table. His run as the flyweight Muay Thai champ has made him one of the most dominant and intimidating fighters on the roster.

In an interview with ONE Championship, ‘The Kicking Machine’ spoke about his upcoming opponent’s Muay Thai skills and how he is able to be so effective:

“Muay Thai has a variety of dangerous weapons. This has kept him from losing. Rodtang is aggressive, not shy to trade. He keeps throwing weapons, and he can absorb opponent’s attacks. Muay Thai has punches, kicks, elbows, and knees but many foreign fighters who fight in Muay Thai usually focus on their punches. But Rodtang’s punch is good, with additional dangerous Muay Thai weapons. He’s always superior to his opponents.”

Superlek open to fighting Rodtang under Muay Thai rules after kickboxing world title clash

At ONE Fight Night 8 in Singapore, flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 will face another of the top strikers on ONE Championship’s roster. On March 24, in his first title defense, he will take on ONE’s dominant flyweight Muay Thai king Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Attempting to stop ‘The Iron Man’ from becoming a two-sport world champion, Superlek knows that he will be in for a tough fight. However, he believes that he holds an edge under the kickboxing rules.

Despite this, ‘The Kicking Machine’ has also shown an interest in returning the favor and challenging Rodtang for his world championship at some point.

Whilst he is welcoming the opportunity to face such a high-profile contender for his first title defense, the kickboxing titleholder has his own aspirations of becoming a two-sport world champion.

In a recent interview with ONE Championship, he spoke about wanting to compete against his upcoming opponent outside of his comfort zone:

“I’m happier than disappointed. I’m a champion, and defending my throne is my job. I can fight him as the [kickboxing[ titleholder or as a [Muay Thai] contender. But honestly, I wonder why I didn’t have the chance to challenge him first [for his belt] because I am a champ right now. If I could choose, I would fight him in Muay Thai first. But it’s fine for me. I am just focusing on defending my kickboxing gold. Muay Thai is another story for another time.”

ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24 is live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The entire event will also air live and for free for North American viewers via Prime Video.
