Jackie Buntan knew that a slow and steady pace would eventually lead her to a ONE world title against Anissa Meksen.
That's exactly what happened at ONE 169 in the first of three epic world title tilts inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. Squaring off with seven-time titleholder Anissa Meksen, Buntan looked as sharp as ever throughout their 15-minute affair and ended up leaving The Land of Smiles with her first ONE world championship—becoming the inaugural ONE strawweight kickboxing queen.
Immediately following the biggest win of her career, Buntan offered some insight into her perfectly executed game plan, telling Mitch Chilson in the ring:

"It’s five rounds, my coach told me to take my time. First round, slowly build, that was the whole game plan. I took the first round to feel her power and speed. It wasn’t much of a threat to me, to be honest. I just kept on building in round one and took my time with it."
With the win, Buntan moved to 7-1 under the ONE Championship banner—her lone loss coming against former ONE strawweight Muay Thai world titleholder Smilla Sundell.

What's next for Jackie Buntan remains to be seen, but there's a very good possibility that she looks to avenge her only loss on martial arts' biggest global stage.
Buntan came up short against Smilla Sundell at ONE 156, seeing her three-fight win streak snapped at the hands of the 20-year-old superstar.
Since then, Buntan has added four more wins to her resume and a world title, making now the perfect time for two of the most exciting strikers in women's combat sports to throw hands once again.
Speaking to Violent Money TV regarding a potential rematch with Sundell, Buntan said:
"I haven’t really thought about it. We were supposed to fight last year, but ever since then, I truly haven’t thought about it just because different opportunities come. And when I have the opportunity..."
