Takeru Segawa has had to wait a long time to finally secure the fight that he had in his sights when he first arrived in ONE Championship.

The Japanese kickboxing superstar decided to make the switch in order to pursue one opponent in particular. As a superstar in his home of Japan, a dream clash with Rodtang Jitmuangnon would be a huge moment for both men.

The fight was incredibly close to happening at ONE 165 earlier this year for Takeru's debut. But Rodtang picked up an injury that forced him out of the tie. Now, on March 23 inside the Saitama Super Arena, the waiting will finally come to an end.

Two of the most exciting strikers in the world are set to lock horns at ONE 172, and the kickboxing specialist is excited to show what he's capable of.

He believes that getting his hand raised after facing off with the former longtime ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion will elevate his own status to another level.

During the press conference where this blockbuster showdown was announced, 'The Natural Born Crusher' had this to say:

"I want to prove I'm the world's strongest by beating Rodtang."

Takeru has already set ONE Championship on fire

If there were any ONE Championship fans that didn't know what to expect from Takeru Segawa when he entered the promotion, he has answered those questions.

In back-to-back fights in the promotion, he's produced two of the very best fights of 2024 with two incredible wars against current two-sport kingpin Superlek Kiatmoo9 in the ONE 165 headliner and Thant Zin at Bangkok's legendary Lumpinee Stadium.

He's already proven that he can dig deep to try and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and there's absolutely no quit in the 33-year-old.

The Japanese star won't be intimidated or back down from a fierce opponent like Rodtang, and that's exactly why the fight has all the makings to be a one-of-a-kind kickboxing showdown when they tango at ONE 172 on March 23.
