Sean O'Malley has acknowledged the reality of his loss against Merab Dvalishvili at Noche UFC 306 moments after joking that the 'Suga' State Athletic Commission has overturned the result of the fight. Having had some time to reflect on the loss, O'Malley doesn't want to lay out any excuses for the loss.
Through five hard-fought rounds, Dvalishvili leveraged his high-pressure, wrestling-heavy approach to get the better of his rival. While O'Malley exhibited fleeting moments of brilliance throughout the fight, it wasn't enough to derail Dvalishvili's determination to dethrone him.
Reflecting on the loss on his YouTube channel, O'Malley said:
"[I had] the best weight cut, felt good, no excuses. My mom, she was like, 'Why you just weren't the same like what was wrong?' I'm like nothing! I just got beat... There are zero excuses."

Sean O'Malley reveals he will be out of action due to surgery
Sean O'Malley succumbed to the second loss of his professional career against Merab Dvalishvili at Noche UFC 306. The American hadn't lost a fight in over four years and avenged his previous loss to Marlon Vera with a dominant performance at UFC 299.
O'Malley revealed on the aforementioned podcast that he will be undergoing surgery on his labrum, a ring of cartilage or soft tissue that surrounds the ball-and-socket joints. He said:
"I have surgery on Oct. 3... I tore my labrum 10 weeks ago... I tore my left labrum in my hip. That's the only reason I'm gonna be out for so long. This surgery should only take like two months to come back from, then a couple months recovery. A year is a long time, could be six to eight months... You never know."
